New SOS school in Bharatpur

CHITWAN, NOV 10 - A new SOS Children Village, a residential school for educating and fostering helpless and orphan children came into operation after its formal inauguration today in Bharatpur, the headquarters of Chitwan district.
Helmut Kutin, the Chairman of the SOS Kinderdorf International and Dr. Hemang Dikshit, the Chairman of the SOS Children Village, Nepal, jointly inaugurated the new school amidst a grand function attended by Hemraj Gyawali, the Chairman of the Kantipur Publications, donors contributing to the school and other dignitaries.
During the inaugural ceremony, Kutin also presented one million US dollars raised from donors in Austria to the newly opened school.
Spread over six bighas of land, the school complex has 22 houses constructed over a year’s time. The school has the capacity to lodge 150 students, providing educational health and other facilities. Presently, the school has 59 students in the age group of 11 to 14 years. They are mostly from underprivileged communities such as Chepang, Bote, Musahar and Dalits, as informed in the programme.
It is learnt that the school will be developed into a Higher Secondary school in the course of time.
Speaking as the chief guest, Kutin said that money alone is not enough to bring up children. They need love, care and a peaceful environment to grow.
"Children form an integral part of the society. They should be given top most care," said Kutin.
Speaking at the programme Dr. Hemang Dikshit stressed on the need for such a school in far-west Nepal.
S. Jutta, the Austrian Ambassador for Nepal, expressed that well-being of children in a SOS school will also contribute to social well-being in the future.
Narayangadh Chambers of Commerce and Industries (NCCI) felicitated Kutin in the programme for his endearing contribution for the welfare of children in the world.
Established first for helpless and orphan children in Austria in 1949 by Dr. Herman Gmeiner is an Austrian philanthropist. There are 450 SOS Children Schools in 131 countries as of today.Posted on: 2003-11-09 09:35
