National Archiview 2003 kicks off
KATHMANDU, NOV 08 - A national level architectural fair, ‘National Archiview-2003’kicked off today at the Birendra International Convention Centre. The three-day-long fair is jointly organised by four students’ associations- Academic Council of Architectural Students (ACAS), Association of Students of Architecture (ASA), Association of KEC Architecture (AKAR) and Khwopa Academic Students’ Association (KASA).
Inaugurating the function, Prime Minister Surya Bahadur Thapa said the onus of safeguarding the structures of archaeological value now lies on the architecture community. "The ancient structures are fast degrading. The responsibility to protect such structures now lies on this community," Thapa said. Keshav Sthapit, Mayor of the Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC), said the architecture community was needed for ‘building Kathmandu’.
On the occasion, professor Bharat Sharma, the first landscape architect of Nepal, was honoured. Speaking on the occasion, Sharma said the attacks on infrastructures have posed a real challenge for the architects. "However, we should not be let down by this. We should accept this challenge."
