BHADRAPUR, NOV 06 - Preliminary reports on a recent study of Malaria, have revealed that an alien form of the disease was brought in to Jhapa district from unknown sources, which has developed resistance against the prevalent drugs, according to the District Public Health Office (DPHO) sources.
Bhanu Yengden, a DPHO official at the Roll Back Malaria programme (RBM), revealed this today.
A record maintained by the DPHO stated that Malaria has stricken 725 persons in the district this year as against 659 last year. While the foreign type of Malaria in the district was detected in 197 persons last year, the number so far this year is 363, according to sources.
While death due to Malaria was not reported last year, the disease has claimed a seven-year-old child in Bahundangi VDC this year.
Areas most affected by the disease are Bahundangi and Mechi Nagar Municipality. RBM programme was introduced two years ago in a bid to contain the once declared extinct disease that has made a comeback.Posted on: 2003-11-05 09:29
