RNA to acquir new Boeing
KATHMANDU, NOV 05 - In a bid to expand the market of national flag carrier by linking some additional destinations, the Board of Directors of Royal Nepal Airlines Corporation (RNAC) has unanimously decided to buy a Boeing 757 under the lease purchase.
The decision in this connection was taken recently. The meeting has formed a sub-committee under the chairmanship of its board member Basant Chaudhari to finalise the procedures of acquiring the aircraft. The committee is supposed to submit the report within the next one month.
The new aircraft will fly to Doha and Riyadh including some other places presently in link, Mohan Khanal, the managing director of RNAC said. "Both these cities are potential markets for the national flag carrier," he said.
It is most likely that the number of flights would be increased in the sectors including Hong Kong, Delhi, Dubai and Kuala Lumpur after the arrival of the new aircraft. Currently, the RNAC is flying at high passenger capacity in these destinations.
"With the new aircraft, the RNAC would be able to assure its passengers of greater reliability and prevent them from frequent revisions of international flights schedules," Khanal said adding that the new aircraft would maintain similar capacity as that of the current fleet.
Most likely that it will take some four months to bring in the aircraft to Nepal. After the recommendation of the committee, the RNAC has to call applications for the purpose allowing the applicants a minimum of 35 days time to submit their application.
One major reason to acquiring the Boeing 757 aircraft is to utilise the existing human resources. RNAC has been marred by overstaffing and number of reports on the RNAC had suggested the corporation to down size number of employees.
With the acquiring of new aircraft, the excess manpower will be managed to some extent, the experts believe. Currently, RNAC has two 757 Boeings which have been air-linking some one dozen destinations overseas.Posted on: 2003-11-04 09:31
