ANFA bans Incheon defectors
KATHMANDU, NOV 05 - The All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) suspended three missing players, who ran away from the squad in Incheon, South Korea last month while participating in the Asian Cup Qualifying round, for 10 years.
The decision was made in the second General Assembly of the present ANFA concluded at the premises of ANFA Complex today. The players leaving the squad are Deepak Lama, Sukra Tamang and Narayan Manandhar.
The Assembly released a yearly calendar of the association apart from amending the constitution and making decisions on several issues. It also presented the estimated budget for 2003/04 and submitted the previous year’s
expenses at the Assembly inaugurated by Minister for Education and Sports Hari Bahadur Basnet.
Pankaj Nemwang and Ganesh Bahadur Chan filled the vacant post of members replacing Mahendra Subba and Bhuwan Prasad Shah who also went missing in South Korea while going to observe World Cup football from the association last year. The Assembly also decided to extend the period of district-level election from two to four years. Likewise, the participation of ‘A’ division clubs in the executive committee is extended from four to seven.
In the Assembly, budget of 35.9 million rupees for 2003-04 has been allocated. It is seven hundred thousand more than the previous fiscal year that consumed 35. 2 million rupees.
As per the new calendar of the association, there will be seven different international and national competitions and participation in coming December-January. Nepal will compete at the AFC U-19 and U-16 Championship in December first week followed by an international-level invitational tournament in Kathmandu to be organised by ANFA. Apart from these, Inter Municipality tournament, Budha Subba Gold Cup, B division Martyr’s Memorial League, Inter-school National football and Inter-association football tournament will be held in December-January.
January-February will witness three other major tournaments including Invitational Women’s Football in Kathmandu and Mahendra Gold Cup in Biratnagar. Besides, the association would also conduct Aha Cup, Tribhuvan Challenge Shield, Birthday Cup, Khukuri Cup and International Youth Football. The ‘A’ division league will start two months before this time. Last time it was held in July-August.
The National Sports Council (NSC) member-secretary Kishor Bahadur Singh, ANFA president Ganesh Thapa and acting general-secretary Kumar Thapa, Joint-secretary of the sports department of the Ministry for Education and Sports Upendra Prasad Bhattarai were also present at the inauguration programme held earlier today.
