11 Maoists killed in Dang, Siraha clashes
- Suspected rebels loot bank in Narayangarh
KATHMANDU, NOV 05 - At least eleven Maoists were killed and two security personnel injured in separate clashes in Dang and Siraha in the last 12 hours and a group of suspected Maoists looted cash from a bank in Narayangarh today, according to reports.
A report from Dang said that six Maoists were killed, including the area commander, in an encounter with security forces in the Hattidhunga area of the Rajpur Village Development Committee (VDC). The slain Maoist commander has been identified as Sultan, hailing from Deukhuri Valley. Two injured security personnel were admitted at a local hospital.
Another report from Siraha stated that five rebels were gunned down on the foothill of the Chure hill range to the north of Lahan Municipality early today. Security sources said that details of the incidents were sketchy, as the security forces engaged in the action were yet to return from the clash site.
Meanwhile, an unconfirmed report from Baitadi said that security personnel in Darchula district have cordoned-off hundreds of armed Maoists in the Rani Shikhar area since last Friday. Security sources said that one security man was injured in sporadic incidents of clashes in the Maoist-controlled area. Security personnel from Bajhang, Darchula and Dadeldhura have surrounded the area where more than 200 armed-rebels are believed to have built up their position on a hilltop. Details about casualties on Maoist side could not be confirmed immediately.
Maoist rebels on Monday evening hacked a 60-year-old man to death at Simarha-Singhyong Village Development Committee-8 in Saptari. Police said the rebels killed Ramfal Rajak, the father of former Saptari District Development Committee member Bishweswor Rajak, at his mango orchard. His dismembered body was brought today to Sagarmatha Zonal Hospital for post-mortem.
In Narayangadh, a group of suspected Maoist looted Rs 727,000 in cash from the branch office of Rastriya Banijya Bank this morning. Bank manager Binod Kumar Nepal said that four armed-men made off with the cash taking security guards and other staff at gunpoint. Earlier, they had disconnected four telephone lines. Located in downtown, the bank was considered to be the safest one in the district, as the district police office is situated just half a kilometre away. Security sources suspect that it was the handiwork of Maoist rebels.
In Dhading, the rebels have pasted a notice at Balram Rawal’s home at Mahadevsthan VDC-5 warning him that they would lock his house if he failed to persuade his two brothers to quit their Royal Nepal Army jobs. The rebels have already locked Min Bahadur Bhandari’s home in Dhuseni about three months ago, after he defied the Maoist order to have his three sons quit their jobs in the army.
Meanwhile, in Dailekh, a group of Maoists abducted Mukunda Bahadur Shah, former chairman of Bijayeshwori VDC and district committee member of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party in Rukum, from Chaurjahari.
