Government appoints PDF office bearers
KATHMANDU, NOV 04 - The government has nominated members to the Power Development Board for the management of the Power Development Project (PDP).
According to a source at the Ministry of Water Resources (MoWR), the board was formed last Wednesday upon a decision from Prime Minister Surya Bahadur Thapa, who always looks after the portfolio of MoWR.
The project handles the Power Development Fund (PDF), which is funded through the loan assistance of the World Bank.
The government nominated the director general of the Department of Electricity Development (DoED) Lekh Man Singh Bhandari as the chairman of the board with Lal Shankar Ghimire (Ministry of Finance), Sobhan Dev Panta (Finacial sector), Dr Rabin Shrestha (technical expert) and a representative from the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs. The grant component would be earmarked for technical assistance and payment to the PDF administrator. Nepal Bangladesh Bank has been appointed as the administer for the purpose.
Apart from the finances made available by the World Bank, resources from other international and domestic financial institutions will also be mobilised to augment the corpus of investment funds to small- and medium-sized hydroelectric project in the country, which will be accessible through the PDF.Posted on: 2003-11-03 09:18
