KATHMANDU, NOV 04 - Prime Minister Surya Bahadur Thapa is addressing a press conference at his office on Tuesday where he is likely to announce the local bodies’ elections within six months.
According to a cabinet source, today’s cabinet meeting approved the programme that the Prime Minister is going to announce tomorrow. Finance Minister Dr. Prakash Chandra Lohani and Information Minister Kamal Thapa prepared the programme, which basically focuses on activating the local bodies and delivering social justice to backward communities through targeted programmes and reservations.
The source said that Prime Minister could hint at tentative time frame for elections of municipalities and other local bodies. "The nominations in the local bodies will continue as short-term measures," the source added.
"The government is now convinced that effective and consolidated mobilisation of the security is the only option left before the government to create a conducive atmosphere for polls," said the source.Posted on: 2003-11-03 09:17
