No alliance with Maoists: Poudel
KATHMANDU, NOV 01 - Barely a few days after Maoist supremo Prachanda offered to hold dialogue with the political parties, the Nepali Congress leader Ram Chandra Poudel said here today that there was no immediate possibility of the parties joining hands with the Maoists.
"There is no theoretical ground to make a working alliance with the Maoists since they have been continuously killing the cadres of democratic parties and are devoted to wiping the achievements of the 1990 movement," said Poudel.
Talking to The Kathmandu Post, Poudel said the Maoist supremo’s offer for fresh working alliance was nothing but an idea floated to create confusion among the democratic political parties. "The Maoists are very forward in creating such illusions," he said, "If they claim themselves to have reached near success, it will be no more than their day dream."
Referring to party president Girija Prasad Koirala’s denial to summon the party’s general committee meeting, Poudel said, "There may be a fear of diminished presence of the party cadres owing to last year’s split in the party." He said it would be inappropriate not to call the meeting citing security reasons. "The general committee meeting should be held every year irrespective of adverse circumstances, as it is the only forum to acquire consent of the cadres and thrash out new strategies of the party," Poudel said.
Poudel expressed dissatisfaction over the rigidity shown by the leadership of both the Nepali Congress factions on the issue of party unification.Posted on: 2003-10-31 09:24
