Ex-PM Bista leaves for Boao conference
KATHMANDU, OCT 31 - The second annual meeting of the Boao Forum for Asia (BFA) willbe exploring the concept of ‘Development through Cooperation’ among the Asian nations. This was stated by former Prime Minister Kirtinidhi Bista who left for Hainan province of the People’s Republic of China today to participate in the conference due on November 2. Bista is accompanied by Professor Mohan Lohani.Talking to The Kathmandu Post before leaving for the conference, Bista said the BFA was formed to exploit the full potential and role of the Asia region in the world economy. "Because of the rapid economic development in Asian countries like China and India, besides the developed economies like Japan, South Korea and others, the Asian age is right around the corner. In this connection China’s grand success in sending a manned spaceship is very encouraging," Bista said, adding that the BFA which had advocated for free transfer of technology to the less advanced countries during its inaugural session in April 2001 would try to give a focussed approach on how to realise this development goal through cooperation.Among others Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao and Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf are likely to attend the second annual conference of the BFA.Posted on: 2003-10-30 08:53
