Top statutory posts likely to be filled up soon

KATHMANDU, OCT 31 - The long pending appointment process of the Chief Election Commissioner and nine members of constitutional bodies is expected to be finalised with the king formally assenting to the appointments to the vacant posts.
According to a reliable government source, the Royal Palace announcement of the appointments of ten persons included in the recommendations of the Constitutional Council on August 22 is expected to come on Friday. The Royal Palace had asked the Council to reconsider some names recommended by it two days ago.
The Council, which is responsible for recommending names for the appointments of chiefs and members for the constitutional bodies, had then revised the list by substituting some names. However, some delay has had been experienced in the palace duly formalising the official appointments.
According to the source, former secretary Bhoj Raj Pokharel will be appointed to the post of Chief Election Commissioner while Damaru Ballav Bhattarai, Jaya Ram Singh Bohara, Dil Bahadur Karki and Usha Nepal as commissioners at the Election Commission. Bohara, Karki and Nepal hold banking, military and administrative backgrounds respectively.
Former secretary Srikanta Regmi, lawyer Bed Prasad Siwakoti, former additional inspector general of Police Ram Kaji Bantawa and former chief of the Special Police Department Indra Bahadur Shrestha will be appointed as members of the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA). Former secretary Sushil Kanta Jha and Supreme Court registrar Shree Prasad Pandit are to be appointed as members of the Public Service Commission (PSC).Posted on: 2003-10-30 08:55
