Dipankar mask

OCT 31 - I was pleased to read the Dipankar mask handed over to Guthiyars by Austrian Ambassador to Nepal Ms Jutta Stefan Bastl. (News report: “Dipankar mask handed over to trustees,” October 25) This has rekindled a faint hope that western art lovers, who have bought Nepal’s stolen ancient sculptures, will some day return to Nepal. Some Nepali criminals have stolen hundreds of Nepal’s sculptures and sold in western countries. I have come across a number of Nepal’s precious sculptures being kept in museums in the United States, France, Britain and other western countries. I also think the UN should come up with an international law that prohibits illegal trading of objects of historical importance. I think this is as equally important as banning land mines.
