Youth killed as volleyball team row turns ugly

MYAGDI, OCT 30 - A dispute over a volleyball game, organised on the occasion of Tihar festival at Dagnam VDC-2 in this district, turned into a gang fight, which led to the death of 24-year-old Dhaniram Tilija.
It is learnt that Tilija was embroiled in a dispute after he could not get a place in one of the volleyball teams. The incident turned ugly when the upset Tilija took out a Khukuri and slashed the volleyball net and attacked some of the youth. Soon after, the local youth attacked Tilija with firewood and logs, which resulted in the death of Tilija.
The District Police Office arrested 17 persons involved in this incident which occurred on 23rd October, and necessary investigation is underway.
According to Ran Bahadur Gautam, the Deputy Superintendent of Police, they have persuaded the court to increase the investigation period for ten more days. Shiva Garbuja who was arrested for the involvement in the killing of Tilija has sustained a deep wound on his head after being attacked by Tilija with the Khukuri.
