POKHARA, OCT 26 - Homodialysis service used in purifying the blood of kidney-failure patients is about to get underway in Pashchimanchal Hospital for the first time. It is learnt that such service is not available in any of the hospitals other than in the capital. The hospital is gearing up to start this service immediately.
The necessary equipment and machinery required for this service, worth around Rs. 1.5 million financed by Rotary Club, is said to have already arrived.
According to Dr. Kalu Sharma, the Medical Superintendent of the hospital, after the necessary training is provided to the doctors and the nurses, this service will get underway. Four medical personnel comprising of doctors and nurses are to be sent to the Kidney Centre in Kathmandu for the necessary skill and training, informed Sharma.
He contended that it is going to take about three months to get the technical side set, after which they will provide regular service to the kidney patients. It is learnt that even the well known hospital established from the private sector like Manipal Teaching Hospital, does not have such a facility.
Kidney patients from all the districts outside of Kathmandu valley till now were forced to visit the hospitals in the capital to get dialysis. After three months all kidney patients in and around Pokhara valley are expected to be free from the hassles of going to Kathmandu for such service. The hospital has also built a separate building for this purpose.
The hospital is also preparing to buy some modern equipment needed for different purposes within this fiscal year spending around Rs. 5 million.Posted on: 2003-10-25 10:51
