Japanese grant for bridge construction
KATHMANDU, OCT 21 - The Embassy of Japan has extended a grant of US dollars 24,200 to Charka Bridge Construction Committee (CBCC) today for the implementation of the project for Charka bridge construction.
A grant contract to this effect was signed between Kazumi Suzuki, Charge de Affairs of Japan and Nar Bahadur Budhathoki, Member of Charka Bridge Construction Committee.
The grant is to be given under the grant assistance for grassroots project (GGP) scheme of the government of Japan. The CBCC will utilise the grant for the construction of a 22 metre long steel truss bridge over Changchung Khola at Charka village of Dolpa District.
During the signing ceremony, Suzuki expressed his hope that the project will be able to contribute, directly and indirectly, to strengthen the social and economic activities of about 28,000 people. He also expressed his firm belief that the project would enhance the friendly relationship between Nepal and Japan.
Charka village, a remote area in Dolpa District is situated on the major route for the trade between upper Dolpa, Jomson and Tibet. Posted on: 2003-10-20 11:27
