New hospital building remains unutilised
BIRATNAGAR, OCT 21 - While a spacious new building stands ready in its premises, patients of the Koshi Zonal Hospital (KZH) are forced to undergo treatment on the hospital floor. The ironic situation has been continuing for the past six months, as the hospital is unable to use its new building due to monetary reasons, according to sources.
The hospital owes Rs. 7.4 millions to a construction company. Since the sum has not been cleared, NCCN, the company has denied the hospital the use of its new building, according to Dr. Rameshwor Lal Karawa, the Medical Superintendant at the hospital.
A new building stands on the premises where the old building was demolished two years. The new building, designed for 100 beds, was constructed to develop KZH as a regional hospital, according to Dr. Karawa.
"We can’t expel the incoming patients. In absence of enough beds, two patients are placed on a single bed while some are being kept on the floor," said Dr. Karawa.
However, once the new building is handed over to the hospital authorities, it can be brought into use within a month’s period, according to Karawa who also added that the hospital lacks modern tools and equipment that the new building deserves, according to Karawa.Posted on: 2003-10-20 11:38
