US envoy visits Mid-western region
POKHARA, OCT 21 - In a bid to acquire information on the latest security situation, US Ambassador to Nepal Michel E Malinoski visited several places in Mid-western region of the country and met high-ranking security officials.
According to a security source, Malinoski received information about the ongoing operation of the joint security forces against the Maoists and the loss caused due to rebels’ attacks on development infrastructures and security personnel.
Malinoski, accompanied by UN Military Attaché Lt Col James E Oxley, visited Sandhikharka, district headquarters of Arghakhanchi district, which was ravaged by Maoists attack last year, for observation of reconstruction works. According to the security officials, the ambassador appreciated the pace of reconstruction work. He also visited some other districts.
Upon his return to Pokhara after completing visit, Malinoski met Regional Administrator Madhav Prasad Ghimire, Western Divisional chief of the RNA Lt. General Chitra Bahadur Gurung, Deputy Inspector General of Police Gyanendra Bikram Mahat and other security officers, the Divisional HQ of RNA said.
