National reconciliation only way out from present crisis: Poudel
KATHMANDU, OCT 21 - Ram Chandra Poudel, leader of the Nepali Congress today expressed that the national reconciliation was required to settle the Maoist problem.
Speaking at a programme organised by the Human Rights and Peace Society (HURPES), a human rights watchdog in the capital, Poudel said, "Maoists are not in a state of holding talks with the government. The Maoist leaders might come under attack from their own cadres if they seek negotiation to resolve the issue. So national reconciliation only could give a way out to the stalemate."
He stressed that the Maoists’ latest activities of abduction and murder have further proved that they would kill more people if they reached in power. "They will resort to indiscriminate massacre," Poudel said.
Urging both the Maoists and the government to immediately stop the violence spree, Poudel said that the violence leads the entire nation to doom.
Speaking on the occasion, Krishna Pahadi, president of the HURPES, flayed both the Maoists and the government for the latest nation-wide violence.
He also urged members of the civil society and human rights organisations not to work as the cadres of political parties. "Everybody should cogitate over the Maoist crisis and find a better resolution through talks," Pahadi said.
Similarly, Pradip Nepal, UML leader raised doubts that there might be foreign intervention if the current violence would continue.
Flaying the Maoists’ activities of abducting and killing the innocent people in a barbarous manner, Nepal said that the Maoists have already proved that they are terrorists. "The Maoist terrorists will meet their tragic end," Nepal said.
Pradip Pokharel, president of the Amnesty International Nepal said that the rights situation was going worse day by day. "As the rights situation is growing worse, so it is inviting the foreign intervention," Pokharel said.Posted on: 2003-10-20 11:17
