KATHMANDU, JUL 05 - A cabinet meeting on Friday decided to use Shital Niwas - the building currently housing the Ministry of Foreign Affairs - as presidential palace.
The meeting also endorsed 21 nominees of various political parties for the vacant constituent assembly seats. Although nine political parties had recommended 26 names for the CA seats, the cabinet endorsed only 21 names after NC failed to provide names of five candidates Friday. A high-level source said NC has agreed to submit the names by Saturday.
The NC had recommended Bishwanath Upadhyaya, Nilambar Acharya, Radheshyam Adhikari, Jagat Tajpuriya and Man Bahadur Raute.
Those endorsed Friday for CA are Hari Roka, Padma Jyoti, Chandra Lal Meche, Indra Kumari Gurung, Kapil Lama, Hari Lal Thapa Magar, Dabal Bahadur Shah, Sher Bahadur Pahadi and Dhami Baram, all from the CPN (Maoist). Similarly UML nominees are Pasang Sherpa, Mahesh Chaudhari, Sushil Chandra Amatya, Bhagawati Choudhari and Shila Katila. MPRF nominees are Bhupendra Chaudhari and Mohammed Iqwal Ahamed. Mahantha Thakur from TMDP, Narayan Kaji Shrestha from PFN, Rajendra Khetan from CPN (ML), Jagya Bahadur Shahi from NWPP and Shyam Sundar Gupta is from NSP (A) were also endorsed as CA members by the cabinet, Friday.Posted on: 2008-07-04 08:27
