Curfew on again in Dhankuta

DHANKUTA, NOV 04 - Normal life has been paralysed in Dhankuta district for second day in a row on Wednesday as the local administration has continued curfew order in the district headquarters.

Locals found some relief after the curfew order effective since 5 pm Tuesday was lifted from 6am till 12 noon today. The administration had clamped curfew since last evening after the UML-aligned Youth Force (YF) and the Maoist-aligned Young Communist League (YCL) did not come for dialogue, called by the administration in a bid to resolve the conflict peacefully. The curfew was lifted for some hours keeping in mind the examination of Bachelors level and to ease for shopping daily commodities, Chief District Officer Kali Prasad Parajuli informed.

Dhankuta and Sindhuwa bazaar turned calm only during the night time. The YF-called indefinite general strike is still on in both the areas.

Meanwhile, locals of Sindhuwa have been demonstrating against the Maoists' violent activities. They are scheduled to take out a whistle rally this afternoon.

The police personnel have been preventing any untoward incidents that may ensue between the two groups since Monday night.

According to a UML source, tensions grew between the youth wings after the YCL cadre's torched nine motorcycles and a van being used by the YF activists in Sindhuwa on Monday night.
