DHARAN, NOV 03 - The management side has shut down two pharmaceutical companies of Dharan Sub-metropolitan on Tuesday after the workers launched an indefinite strike putting forth 14-point demand.
Some 82 workers of the Shiva and the Manoj Pharmaceutics had launched strike against the management demanding permanent appointment, salaries as per the Labour Act and provisions for leave.
According to Company Manager Govindaram Agrawal, the company was shut down as the demands placed by the workers could not be met at once.
More than three rounds of inconclusive talks and meetings were held at Biratnagar Regional Office of Labour Department between the management and the workers, which eventually led to the strike, said meeting coordinator for the workers Shanti Sherpa.
The workers have accused the Management of forcing them to work in wages and facilities below the prescribed scale of Labour Act and labour exploitation. But, Agrawal claims that the wages and bonuses have been raised.
