NC takes initiatives to form govt
At a meeting held at Constituent Assembly (CA) building in Nayabaneshwor, Kathmandu on Monday, the NC put forth the consensus proposal before the UML.
President Ram Baran Yadav on Sunday had called on the parties to form a consensus government. The NC in its capacity as the largest party of the CA took initiatives to form the government after the President's call.
Speaking to the journalists after the meeting, CPN-UML leader Bhim Rawal said that his party was positive towards the proposal of NC. "We asked them (NC) to bring a complete proposal for government formation," Rawal said, "Today's talks were positive."
NC General Secretary Prakash Man Singh said the CPN-UML has given the consent to form the government under NC leadership. "We proposed them ( CPN-UML ) to support our party's leaders," said Singh after the meet, "The have given their commitment for their support."
Singh further informed that the discussions between the two parties, held right after the second meeting of Legislature Parliament, culminated with the resolution on holding the local body election within six months and promulgating the constitution within a year. "Both the parties have agreed to hold the local body election within six months," Singh said, "A consensus has also been reached to draft the new constitution within one year."
CPN-UML , earlier, had said that they would participate in the government only if they got "appropriate role."
President Yadav had called on the parties represented in the CA to form a consensus government by February 2.
NC President Koirala was elected the party's parliamentary leader through the NC parliamentary party election on Sunday.
