Bird flu in four poultry farms of Lalitpur
LALITPUR, AUG 17 - The H5N1 strain of bird flu virus has been confirmed in four poultry farms of Bhaisepati in Lalitpur district on Saturday. Following the confirmation, a team from Avian Influenza Technical Coordination Committee has slaughtered some 1200 fowls from one of the poultry farms in Bhaisepati today.
According to Chief of the District Veterinary Office, Mogal Prasad Sah, security personnel were mobilised after some locals tried to obstruct the culling of the infected chickens by the members of the technical committee.
Sah informed that around 3000 fowls from the four poultry farms will be culled.
Following the serial outbreak of the deadly bird flu virus in the Capital, the government has declared Bhaktapur and Kathmandu districts as bird flu emergency zone. Even after a month since the first outbreak, the flu has shown no signs of abating.
