KTM ride on Prakash’s ton to beat Nepalgunj

Prakash Bista ‘A’ scored a century to hand region No 3 Kathmandu 156 runs triumph over region No 5 Nepalgunj in the Wai Wai U-19 National Cricket Tournament on Sunday.

Electing to bat, opener Prakash stroked 124-ball 109 runs as Kathmandu piled up 266 runs at Pokhara Stadium.

In reply, Ujjwal Thapa’s superb bowling figures of three wickets and two runs in his spell of 1.5 overs helped Kathmandu bowl Nepalgunj out for 110 runs in 23.5 overs.

Prakash is the first batsman to score a hundred in the ongoing tournament.

Despite the win Kathmandu bowed out of the tournament with two points from three matches in Group A.

Nepalgunj’s batting wobbled right from the start. Rahul Singh Pokhrel was the first to go leaving his team on 26/1 in seven over. Wasim Halwai was the next to go. Opener Wasim, who had top-scored with 18 runs fell prey to Abhiraj Yadav in 9.5 overs.

Kathmandu struck at regular interval denying Nepalgunj chance to form any sort of a partnership. Sharad Khadka and Sanjay Shah wiped the middle order.

Thapa then finished the tail with his miserly spell. He got rid of Amar Singh Routela and Inamuddin Halwai in his single over reducing Nepalgunj to 107/8.

Sharad Khadka got rid of Siddhant Raj Shahi in the next over when Nepalgunj were 109/0. Likewise, Thapa clinched his third wicket in the next over to bowl Nepalgunj out.

Earlier, Prakash’s brilliant knock of three sixes and 12 boundaries had anchored Kathmandu’s innings.

He featured in two partnerships—59 runs with Pawan Shrestha (22) and 105 runs with Khadka (30).
