BARA, FEB 10 -
CMG Sankata Club beat Armed Police Force (APF) Club 2-1 in the fourth Magic Moments Simara Gold Cup in Simara on Saturday to advance to the quarter-finals.
An extra-time goal by Samuel Angono sent the New Road outfit into the next stage after the match had ended in 1-1 in regulation time.
Lawati of APF found the back of the net with a curling free kick in the 39th minute as Sankata goalkeeper Andoa Werga Pyar could only get fingertips on the ball. Dikesh Khadgi of Sankata scored the equaliser in the 74th minute after picking up a lose ball in the D area and coolly guiding it to the back of the net.
The game extended to extra 30 minutes after both teams failed to produce a winning goal. An exhausted APF team succumbed to the consistent Sankata attacks in the 105th minute when Angono scored the decisive goal to make it 2-1.
APF were resilient during the initial stages of the game but later became more sloppy to give away their lead. Both teams played offensively in the extra time but Sankata got the better results to qualify
for the quarter-finals from Group B.
After the match furious APF coach Naresh Shrestha commented that he was not satisfied with the way his players played and were unable to convert 5-6 chances they got in the second half into goals. He said, ‘We lost because the players didn’t perform well.’
Sankata coach Uttam Sthapit explained that his players utilised the chances they got to secure their victory.
Himalayan Sherpa will face Friends’ Club in the second prequarter-finals match of the group on Sunday.
