Region No 6 Baitadi achieved a three wicket victory over Region No 3 Kathmandu in the Wai Wai U-19 National Cricket Tournament in Pokhara on Saturday.
Player of the match Bhuban Karki proved to be a nightmare for Kathmandu taking three wickets while top-scoring with 30 runs.
Kathmandu, who opted to bat first, managed to score 129 runs in 38.5 overs before being all out. Karki dismissed opener Sharad Khadka and finished with the figures of 10-3-24-3.
Samir Nagarkoti contributed with four wickets for Baitadi with Arjun Chapagain taking two and Jagdish Chand a single wicket.
Baitadi suffered a shaky start since both of their opening batsmen Dipendra Chand and Roman Bam were dismissed with five runs each to their name. Prem Tamang ignited Baitadi’s hopes scoring 21 runs while blasting three boundaries.
Karki’s entry after the dismissal of Tamang was the main turning point of the match. Karki smashed three boundaries in his 46-ball stay while Bhim Sarki added 15, Yogendra Karki nine and Sandeep Khadka eight runs for Baitadi as they made 131 runs in 29.4 overs losing seven wickets. Kathmandu’s bowling department showed poor performance with none of the bowlers being able to take a significant number of wickets with Prakash Bista, Sanjay Shah and Sharad Khadka taking two wickets each.
Earlier, Kathmandu’s batting department gave a patchy performance, easily being penetrated by Baitadi bowlers.
Bibhatsu Thapa’s 18 runs was the highest score for Kathmandu which included four boundaries. Abhiraj Yadav added 17 and both Sharad and Jeevan Lamsal contributed 16 runs each.
