Nepali photo exhibition begins in Oslo

A photo exhibition, showing the life of the Ranas, social change and development through the lenses of the three generations of photographer Kiran Man Chitrakar’s family, was inaugurated in Oslo on Thursday.

Rare, unique photos of Nepali kings and leaders of the early 20th century are now on display in Oslo, said a release issued by Norwegian Embassy in Kathmandu.

The exhibition, organised by the Norway-Nepal Association and Chitrakar, will continue till March 3. The exhibition is significant as it reflects parts of Nepal’s cultural heritage and history.

The photos have been taken by Kiran Man as well as his father Ganesh Man and grandfather Dirgha Man who were the Rana court’s official photographers from 1908.  The exhibition also illustrates the huge contrast between the Ranas’ luxury and the life of ordinary Nepalis.
