Oli rules out unity govt under independent candidate

Oli

NEPALGUNJ, FEB 04 -

CPN-UML leader KP Oli has accused Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai of being one of the most power-greedy leaders in the world.

Speaking at a press meet organised by the Banke chapter of Press Chautari on Monday, leader Oli opined that the Bhattarai-led government has failed constitutionally, politically and morally.

"This government is not a government because it has failed constitutionally, politically and morally," Oli said.

Oli who reached Nepalgunj on his way for the participation in a protest assembly, organised jointly by 10 opposition parties in Dhangadi stressed on the need to resolve all the political deadlocks from political parties.

On the occasion, Oli ruled out the possibility of the formation of a national consensus government under the leadership of an independent candidate and added that the UCPN (Maoist) should pave way to forge consensus on thorny issues.

It would be beneficial for all the political parties if a consensus government is constituted under the leadership of Nepali Congress President Sushil Koirala, he said.

He said an alternative to the NC president for the prime ministerial candidate could be sought from his party itself if a situation of forging package agreement among the political parties came.

Responding to a query of journalists, leader Oli said it were not the opposition parties but the UCPN (M) which did not want fresh Constituent Assembly elections. New election under the leadership of the incumbent government is not possible under any circumstances, he said.

The UML leader said participating in the election headed by the incumbent government, which has already lost the moral and constitutional grounds, was like surrendering before him.
