KATHMANDU, JAN 18 -
The UCPN (Maoist) held discussion on the formation of Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) with the representatives of European Union, America and Australia on Friday.
UCPN (M) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Narayan Kaji Shrestha, among other leaders, held discussion with the diplomats at Dahal's residence in Lazimpat.
The meeting comes at the time when the experts have been saying that the decision could jeopardise the whole transitional justice system by granting amnesty to serious war-era abuses.
"The meeting was called to clarify the statement forwarded by the EU. Many issues have been clarified, they have taken our issues positively," Dahal said.
According to sources, the Maoist leaders requested the diplomats to assist in forming the TRC. During the meeting, the leaders tried to assure the diplomats that government was committed to provisions of international human rights, among other issues.
It has been learnt that they also discussed about the arrest of Nepal Army Col Kumar Lama during the meeting.
