KATHMANDU, JAN 16 -
Leaders Three Star Club went three points clear at the top with a 2-0 victory against defending champions Nepal Police Club in a thrilling clash of the Red Bull Martyrs’ Memorial ‘A’ Division League at the Dashrath stadium on Tuesday.
An early second half goal from African recruit Adeeoumi Ibrahim and own goal from Police defender Suman Subedi in the last 15 minutes secured the Three Star victory, consolidating their hope of entering the super eight stage as leaders. They are tied on 29 points with Ranipokhari Corner Team and Machhindra FC, but lead on superior goal difference.
Police, who are ninth in the standings on 19 points, one behind Saraswoti. The departmental side, who next play Manang Marshyandi Club in another big match, will be left out of super-eight even if they finish level on points with Saraswoti.
After the keenly contested first half, Three Star proved the better side as they kept the majority of the possession and looked swift in attack. Ibrahim put Three Star into a lead two minutes into the second half, firing a low shot past Police goalkeeper Ritesh Thapa.
As the match sprang into life with end-to-end action, Three Star doubled their lead when Police defender Subedi, in his desperate attempt to deny a low shot from Victor Ozoamibvek, ended up putting the ball into his own net.
