Khatri wins Lumbini Peace Marathon
LUMBINI, JAN 16 -
Letter Singh Khatri of Nepal Army was crowned the winner of the First Lumbini Peace Marathon on Tuesday. He overcame stiff competition from fellow army man Krishna Basnet who finished second. Kalyan Baniya, another army man, completed the clean sweep for Nepal Army by finishing third in the 21 kilometer race. Khatri was awarded Rs 50,000 while Basnet and Baniya were awarded Rs 35,000 and Rs 25,000 respectively.
In the womens 10 kilometer race, Bishwaroop Budha of Jumla was victorious after clocking a time of 36 minutes and 22 seconds. Runner up Kanchi Maya Koju of APF finished the race in 36 minutes 29 seconds. Bindra Shrestha, also of APF, finished third. Bishwaroop was awarded RS 25,000 while the runner ups got Rs 15,000 and Rs 10,000 respectively.
In the 5km School Race for boys, Raju Shrsetha of Bhaktapur came in at first place while Bharat Suada and Akhilesh Yadav finished second and third respectively. Meanwhile, the 5km School Race for girls was won by Sangita Khadka. Sarmila Chetri and Rina Kapali made up the rest of the podium places. Both the winners of the School Race were awarded with Rs 10,000 while the second and third placed athletes got Rs 7,000 and Rs 5000 respectively.
The 5km Veterans race was won by Mahendra Maharjan of Kathmandu who clocked in at 16 minutes 37 seconds. Krishna Bahadur Gurung finished second with a time of 16 minutes 47 seconds while third placed Bhim Bahadur Gurung clocked a time of 17 minutes and 5 seconds. The winner was awarded Rs 5000. The second and third placed runner got Rs 3000 and Rs 2000 respectively.
