PM proposes to form govt under neutral candidate
KATHMANDU, JAN 02 - At a time when consensus among the political forces on a common prime ministerial candidate continues to be elusive, Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai on Wednesday proposed forming a Cabinet led by an independent candidate.
In a meeting with CPN-UML leader Madhav Kumar Nepal , the prime minister reportedly put forth his views that a new government could be formed under the leadership of a neutral candiate or any other political parties except for the Nepali Congress.
UML leader Nepal, after the meeting, said election was the major issue over government formation and clarified that his party was open to discuss other alternatives if formally decided by the UCPN (Maoist). "He [PM Bhattarai] was for the formation of government under a neutral candidate. I have suggested him to come after taking a concrete decision in his party," said Nepal.
Meanwhile, Chairman of Tarai Madhes Loktantrik Party, Mahantha Thakur also met Nepal today. During the meeting, the duo discussed the issues of government formation and conducting election.
