PM assures to book perpetrators
KATHMANDU, DEC 29 -
Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai has assured to take all necessary steps to take action against the perpetrators involved in violence against women . He said he has been disturbed by the recent unfortunate incidents that have been taking place in the country.
During a meeting with the representatives of National Women Commission at his official residence in Baluwatar on Saturday morning, PM Bhattarai said the culprits will be booked at any cost.
Following the meeting, the prime minister is learnt to have directed the Inspector General to reinvestigate the case of Saraswati Adhikari (Subedi) by conducting re-post mortem of her body. Subedi was found dead two weeks ago at the house where she used to work. The prime minister had met Subedi's mother and sister on Friday and assured to take stern action against the guilty.
Meanwhile, PM Bhattarai said the Cabinet meeting held on Monday has already taken decision regarding Sita Rai 's rape case and informed that he has directed the concerned authority to arrest the police personnel and immigration officials who were involved in the rape and subsequent robbery to initiate action against them.
On Thursday, the government had decided to dole out Rs 150,000 in compensation to Rai and to take stern action against the accused.
Sita, a native of Bhojpur, had lodged a complaint last Sunday at the Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA) against Somnath Khanal, a first class senior non-gazetted officer and constable, Parshuram Basnet, accusing them of robbing her of Rs 218,000 at the airport on November 21.
Likewise, also during the meeting, PM Bhattarai directed the security officials to intensify their search for Chori Maiya Maharjan who has been missing since February 28.
