Lowly Bansbari stun leaders RCT

KATHMANDU, DEC 27 -

League leaders Ranipokhari Corner Team (RCT) were dealt a major blow in their title aspirations as they succumbed to a 2-0 defeat at the hands of relegation threatened Mahindra Bansbari FC in the Red Bull Martyrs’ Memorial ‘A’ Division League on Wednesday.

RCT’s stumble has now presented second-placed Three Star Club with the perfect opportunity to jump to top spot as they go into their clash with APF on Thursday as outright favourites.

Momodou Faye was the star for Bansbari as his brace gave them their first victory of the campaign.

Nevertheless, the win did no wonders for them as they stood rigid at second from bottom with five points, two adrift of 14th placed Madhyapur Youth Association.

RCT, who were presumed to win the match without much effort, seemed to make their presence on the field felt only because it was mandatory for them to do so. They did not even seem to fight for the ball, leave aside the possibility of striving for goal from set pieces.

“This is the poorest performance my team has given in two years,” said RCT coach Madhu Karki.

“One cannot win games without labour. We may have fallen victim to our over confidence. We should be shameful for such a lifeless performance. Moreover, we are sure to have tough time in our upcoming matches as we will be squaring off against Army, Three Star and Police.”

RCT were punished for their lack of enthusiasm in the 30th minute as Bansbari took the lead through Momodou, who sent the ball back into RCT net with his powerful strike from the area after RCT goalie, Dilip Chhetry had punched away Noor Raj Kafle’s close range header. Faye doubled his and his teams’ tally only two minutes into the second half when he headed home a glancing header after being supplied with a cross by

Dil Bahadur Tamang from the left.

Meanwhile, Yeti Himalayan Sherpa Club (YHSC) leapfrogged to ninth position from 13th after defeating rock bottom Boudha FC 1-0 in the

second game of the day.

Heman Gurung’s 70th minute free kick was enough for YHSC to see off Boudha who are still without a win in this season.
