KATHMANDU, DEC 27 -
, the company which markets Asus products in Nepal. Google Nexus 7 is manufactured by Asus, one of the prominent names in the gadget market based in Taiwan.
The device was slated to make its debut in the Nepali market in August 2012. However, a significant increment in demand in the European and American markets, according to Nagmani International, delayed its Nepal debut. “We are now planning to unveil the tablet at CAN InfoTech,” said Amit Sharaf, director of Nagmani International. “Ever since news about the release of the Nexus 7 reached the market, we have been receiving frequent queries. This device has the potentiality to spin the domestic tablet market,” he said.
Arrival of the Nexus 7 will heat up the fierce competition in the domestic tablet market. It is estimated that monthly demand in the country stands at 300 units. According to Sharaf, the company is expecting sales of at least 3,000 units in the first year.
Google’s Nexus 7 is equipped with Android Jelly Bean Operating System (OS) making it more efficient than its competitors in the market. It is the first tablet to feature this OS. Moreover, the device features Nvidia Tegra 3 chipset, Quad-Core 1.3 GHz Cortex-A CPU and ULP GeForce GPU.
The only drawback
this tablet seems to have is unavailability of GSM voice communication, SMS and MMS facility.
The tablet is 10.9 mm
thick and weighs 336 gm. Its slim
body enables users to hold it in the hand like a smartphone. As for the camera, Google has powered this device with a 1.2 mega pixel camera along with video calling features.
The Google Tablet has a 7-inch screen with LED backlit IPS LCD capacitive touch screen and multi-touch functionality. For the protection of the screen display, Google has equipped it with corning gorilla glass. The device has accelerometer, gyro, proximity and compass sensors.
Even though the device is available with an internal memory storage capacity of 8 GB, 16 GB and 32 GB,
the one to be launched here will have
a storage capacity of up to 16 GB. Another shortcoming of this tablet
is that it doesn’t possess a card slot
to access external memory using an SD card.
Other general features of the tablet are Google wallet, SNS integration, MP4, WMV, DIVX, XVID, H.263, MP3, WAV, EAAC and WMA player, organiser, image and video editor, document viewer, Google search, maps and Gmail. Features like YouTube,
calendar, Google Talk, Picasa integration and voice memo are also available in this device. For connectivity, options like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS and a near-field communications (NFC) chip are available.
According to Nagmani International, it is planning to price the Nexus 7 with 16 GB storage
at around Rs 30,000. “There are
either cheap tablets having bogus hardware and software configuration or expensive branded devices in the domestic market.
We are pricing this device
competitively to make sure that
it caters to the demand of people
from all economic backgrounds,” Sharaf said.
