Rohit Chand in Indonesian top division side Pekanbaru
KATHMANDU, DEC 25 -
Nepal international Rohit Chand has signed a 10-month contract with Indonesian top division side PSPS Pekanbaru, his elder brother Rabindra Chand confirmed on Monday.
Rohit will be getting a monthly salary of US$ 3500 and a bonus of $ 100 for every match he plays. Though the deal was finalised on Sunday evening, the club has made his contract effective from the beginning of December.
In Pekanbaru, Rohit will be looking to gel in a different position than what he has been known for all this years. He will be playing as a defensive midfielder instead of his usual role as a left back.
According to Rabindra, his younger brother was chosen ahead of two other players from South Korea and Australia after he managed to impress the clubs in his five-week trial. The club’s interest in Rohit grew stronger in the recently held Island Cup, where his performance was ‘impressive’, added his brother.
“Rohit wanted to try for a different position. So he injured himself while trying for Arema. We went to Pekanbaru after that and luckily things worked out,” said his brother. “Rohit would not have gone this far without the support of Navin Chitrakar, who is a businessman and a football enthusiast, with a lot of links there.”
Rohit started his professional football career with Machhindra Football Club after graduating from the Anfa Academy. He then moved to Manang Marshyangdi. His next big step was signing for Indian top-flight side Hindustan Aeronautics where he played for two seasons.
