Two male high school students forced to hold hands as punishment
DEC 06 -
Two male students from Westwood High School in Mesa, Arizona were caught fighting and given an unusual punishment option: get suspended or hold hands in front of their classmates. The guilty teens chose to avoid suspension and took the hand holding option. Witnesses that saw the punishment said that there was name-calling, laughing, and “It worked.” But when a photo of the two young men was posted to Facebook, commenters criticized the discipline measure taken by the school, saying it was “inappropriate,” “encouraged bullying,” and sent a negative message to gay students by implying that hand-holding by two males should be viewed as embarrassing.
