Census puts Nepal's population at 26.49 million

  • Population increased by 1.35%

KATHMANDU, NOV 26 - National Census Report 2068 (2012), released by the Central Bureau of Statistics (BS), has put the current population of the country at 26,494,504.

The report was released by Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai at a programme organised at Singha Durbar in the Capital on Monday.

According to the report, the population was increased by 1.35% as the population of Nepal was 23,151,423 in BS 2058.

Likewise, it has been found that the literacy rate has also increased within the past decade.

Also, the female population is slightly more than that of males. There are 13,645,463 women in Nepal, which accounts for 51.5% of the total population, while the number of males is 12,849,041.

Moreover, the report states that 48.5% of the total population lives in Tarai while 43% live in hilly region and 6.7 in the mountain region.

The report was presented by CBS Director General Uttam Narayan Malla.
