Kunwar remanded in seven-day custody
KATHMANDU, NOV 19 -
The Kathmandu District Administration Office on Sunday remanded Padam Kunwar, who slapped UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Puspha Kamal Dahal in public, in a seven-day judicial custody to proceed with further investigation into the incident. Kunwar was discharged from hospital and produced before the DAO. Police are planning to file a public offence case against him. The Chief District Officer (CDO) can issue a 35-day detention in such cases. The provision has it that an offender can be fined up to Rs 10,000 or
two year of jail term or both. He was severely beaten by the Maoist cadres after he smacked Dahal on face in a tea reception hosted by the party on Friday.
