13 killed in Gulmi bus accident
GULMI, SEP 09 -
At least 13 persons have been killed and 20 others injured when a passenger bus met with an accident at Hardineta VDC-6, Lumchha in Gulmi district on Sunday morning.
Police Inspector Jitendra Basnet said the Kathmandu-bound bus (Lu 1 Kha 5583) swerved off the road and plummeted some 300 meters down and stuck in a tree on the slope. Eleven passengers died on the spot while two others breathed their last on their way to hospital in Palpa.
The deceased have been identified as Tim Lal Panday of Arkhale-6, Gulmi, Bishnu Panthi of Tamghas-1, Dev Bahadur Sumare of Birubas-8, Hari Kala Aryal of Durbar Devisthan-3, Tham Kala Kumwar of Tamghas-3, her son Niraj Kunwar, Laxmi Khadka of Jaisithok VDC, Rajan Gautam of Arkhale-7, Laxmi Khanal of Pipaldhara-7 and CB Thapa of Dubichaur-9.
Likewise, Mada Bahadur Chhetri of Maryang-6, Arghakhanchi, Lal Bahadur Shrestha of Bhagawati-5, and Chanda Bhusal of Wangla-8 also died in the accident.
A police team from Shringa Police station and locals rescued the injured passengers and took them to hospital for treatment.
Eyewitnesses said the ill-fated bus tumbled off the road while attempting to make way for another vehicle coming from the opposite direction. However, the exact cause of the accident has yet to known.
Road accidents are common in the country due poorly maintained roads, overcrowded busses and reckless driving.
