NADA Auto Show slated to start Sept 19

The eighth edition of NADA Auto Show 2012 is scheduled to be held from Sept 19-23 at Exhibition Hall, Bhrikuti Mandap. Organised by the Nepal Automobile Dealers Association (NADA) and Global Exposition and Management, the five-day auto show aims to tap into the buying spree that precedes the Dashain festival.

According to the organisers, NADA Auto Show 2012 will provide an appropriate forum for the automobile sector to market their products and services. It will also offer an opportunity for prospective buyers to get to know, feel and decide the kind of wheels they want. The event also aims to promote the automotive industry in general and enhance its status and image in Nepal. The show will feature automobile launches, service, technology, components and exchange service under a single roof.

NADA chairman Saurabh Jyoti said that 43 companies including 24 automobile brands will be exhibiting their products at the eighth edition of the auto show. There will be auto component makers, lubricant dealers and manufacturers of auto accessories. He added that manufacturers, dealers and distributors from Nepal, India, China, Korea, US, Malaysia, Czech Republic, Germany, Italy, Japan and Taiwan, among others, will have 100 stalls in and outside the hall. Auto financing and insurance service too will be offered in the event. At a time when the country’s automobile market is going through rough times, the organisers believe that this event will help influence prospective buyers and also spread a positive message about the sector. “Compared to the last fiscal year, auto sales are down 19 percent. And the situation doesn’t look like improving soon. “The event will give respite to the stagnating market,” said Jyoti.

According to him, categorising vehicles as a luxury by the government and the reluctance of banks and financial institutions to finance this sector has slowed down the auto sector from the past few years.

In a bid to promote automobile products made in Nepal, a separate pavilion featuring Nepal-made vehicles, lubricants and various other auto components will be featured at the auto show. Moreover, there will also be a display of vintage cars with the theme “Classical and Vintage: Nepal’s pride and heritage”. “The auto show will attract automobile enthusiasts from various age groups and interests. We want to make this event a mega success by giving our possible best,” Jyoti said.

Apart from featuring automobiles, the auto show will conduct seminars on two themes—road safety and green city. “The seminar is being hosted with a motive to create awareness among the general public about road safety, traffic discipline and keeping our city clean and green,” said Jyoti. All the stakeholders related with road security and green city will be included in the event.

Different activities like children’s amusement, virtual shows, live music, auto quiz and safety riding sessions will be held. “As the auto show falls just ahead of Dashain, we are offering fun-filled activities to enliven and encourage visitor participation,” said Deepak Thapa, NADA general secretary and the coordinator of the auto show.

The five-day event expects to draw more than 50,000 visitors.
