Maoist cantonments to be handed over to NA, APF
KATHMANDU, APR 08 - The meeting of Special Committee for Supervision, Integration and Rehabilitation of Maoist combatants on Sunday decided to vacate the temporary camps of Maoist combatants and hand them over to Nepal Army (NA) and Armed Police Force (APF).
The committee has decided to hand over 12 of the15 cantonments to the Nepal Army and three to APF.
According to committee member and Finance Minister Barsha Man Pun, the office bearers of the special committee secretariat have reached the cantonment sites as part of the programme to vacate the cantonments.
Pun added that the office bearers of the special committee are scheduled to reach the main cantonment sites on April 12. The government has only allocated 1 billion rupees though the Ministry of Peace and Reconstruction has demanded 2 billion rupees for providing cash incentives to the Maoist combatants opting voluntary retirement and rehabilitation package. He added that the cheques for the allocated amount have reached the cantonment sites.
