SUNSARI, FEB 03 -
Authorities have suspected outbreak of bird flu after more than 5,000 fowls died of an unidentified disease in Sunsari's Itahari.
They, however, said it would be confirmed only after the UK-based International Laboratory testes sample of the dead fowls positive for the disease.
More than 5,000 fowls of Pathibhara Poultry Firm at Khanar-4 and PK Poultry Suppliers at Itahari-6 died of an unknown disease over the past one week.
Chief of Eastern Veterinary Laboratory Dr Bolraj Acharya said samples of the dead fowls tested positive for the virus.
He, however, said the disease would be confirmed only after the report comes out. Programme director of Directorate of National Animal Health, Dr Ram Krishna Khatiwada, said health workers and technicians were on alert and the incident sites were under constant supervision. He said the team would be deployed in the sites if need be.
