KATHMANDU, FEB 03 - The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) on Friday filed a corruption case in the Special Court against two engineers and a contractor on the charge of irregularity in a road construction deal.

The chargesheeted are engineers Abhiman Das Mulmi and Amarendra Kumar Karna and contractor Navaraj Dhakal. The CIAA, in the chargesheet, has said Mulmi and Karna received Rs 190 thousands and Rs 150 thousands respectively from Dhakal. The commission has demanded similar amount of fine from them. Similarly, the CIAA wants that the total amount of bribe given to the engineers by Dhakal be recovered.

"We have filed the case against them who are still in the CIAA custody," said CIAA Spokesman Ishwori Paudyal. The CIAA, however, has given a clean chit to another engineer Yadav Prasad Dhungel, who was arrested along with others. The anti-graft body said it could not prove his involvement in the bribery.

In January, a joint team of the Nepal Police and the CIAA had arrested engineers Yadav Prasad Dhungel, Mulmi and Karna, helper Gauri Bahadur Thapa and Dhakal from Thankot while they were returning to Kathmandu from Damauli and confiscated huge money from them.

CIAA sources said the engineers of the Tanahu-based Division Road Office were bribed while awarding the contract of Dumre-Besisahar road section. Two contractors--Lama Chyankila and Sukuti JV construction--allegedly given the hush money to bag the project.
