PM clarifies he didn’t use word ‘merge’ in his statement
KATHMANDU, FEB 02 - Prime Minister Babauram Bhattaral's political advisor Devendra Poudel has claimed that the PM has never made any statements to merge Nepal into India and China.
Poudel said so while issuing a press statement on Thursday.
The press statement has been issued after the opposition parties and the civil society activists protested against the PM's so called statement.
During informal talks with media personnel on Jan 15, Bhattarai had used a word ´submerge’ which media had manipulated and disseminated news using only the half of the word, Poudel said in a press statement.
The press statement further reads, "Opposition parties have been demanding PM's resignation for the issue without knowing the truth."
The prime minister had earlier said, "Neighbouring countries India and China will eat Nepal if we fail to rise above ‘buffer state mentality’, in such situation, our country might merge with one of the neighbouring countries."
Poudel accused the media of manipulating PM's speech while disseminating it by using the word 'merge' when the actual word was 'submerge'.
