KATHMANDU, FEB 02 -

Nepali Congress President Sushil Koiral and party senior leader Sher Bahadur Deuba on Thursday agreed to patch up internal differences.

During the meeting held at Koirala's residence in Maharajgunj, the two factions reached closer to a deal on patching up internal differences within a week, sources confirmed.

Emerging from the meeting, Deuba said, "Koirala seems positive to forge consensus in package deal."

He added, Now we will move ahead in unity."

The meeting comes at the time when the internal rift within the party has soured up.

The Deuba camp has been demanding that all reaming five central members be appointed from its group as Koirala has already unilaterally picked 16 of the total 21members. Though as per the party’s rule, the central members had to be appointed within two months from the election of the party president, it has remained stalled for over a year due to intra-party rifts.

Deuba panel has also urged that the party should remain open regarding the prime ministerial candidate for consensus government. The party establishment has been arguing that as per party’s rules, only parliamentary party leader can be PM candidate.
