KATHMANDU, FEB 02 -

Protesting staff unions of Tribhuvan University have agreed to hold talks with TU authorities to seek solutions to the long-standing university row as their padlocking protest entered 15th day on Wednesday.

The unions affiliated to various political parties have been disrupting administrative work at the TU central office to press officials to meet their demands.

Their 11-point demand includes dress allowances on a par with civil servants and staff promotion through internal competition. “The protesters have agreed to sit for talks on Thursday,” said TU Vice Chancellor Hira Bahadur Maharjan. “I am sure the meeting will resolve the problem.”

The protestors have warned of padlocking all TU constituent colleges if their demands were not met by February 6. They have planned to hand over a memorandum to Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai and Education Minister Dinanath Sharma on February 2 and 6 respectively.
