Embassy’s bid to attract SKorean investment

In a bid to attract South Korean investment, the Nepali Embassy in Seoul, in collaboration with the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industries, organised a one-day seminar on ‘Investment Environment in Nepal’ on Tuesday.

Charge d’ Affaire of the Embassy Raja Ram Bartaula highlighted the Foreign Investment Policy as well as the provisions of the Foreign Investment and Technology Transfer Act 1992 of the Government of Nepal. During the presentation, Bartaula also briefed about the incentives and facilities provided by the government to foreign investors.

Seeking Korean investment in hydropower, infrastructure, agriculture, IT and tourism sectors, Bartaula assured potential Korean investors about the safety of their capital and its return. “He also said the Government of Nepal has designated 2012 as Investment Year and investors would be able to get additional benefits and incentives for their investment this year,” a statement issued by the Nepali mission read.

Jung Pyung Soo, senior manager of Hydro and Nuclear Power Company Ltd, which is involved in Chameliya Hydropower Project in Nepal, presented his views on hydropower development in Nepal. During the seminar, participants were also informed about the Nepal International Trade Fair 2012 to be held in Kathmandu from April 5 to 9, 2012.

Korean Chamber of Commerce Nepal Chairman Jay Kim asked potential Korean investors to positively think

about investing in Nepal, especially in infrastructure development and tourism sectors.
