KATHMANDU, FEB 01 -
The Special Committee Secretariat (SCC) has decided to dispatch teams from Thursday for organising farewell programmes for Maoist combatants choosing voluntary retirement. A 13-member team will leave for each of the main seven cantonment sites on Thursday and start the process of discharging the combatants from Friday, according to Secretariat Coordinator Balananda Sharma. The retiring combatants will be entitled to the first installment of cash packages ranging from Rs 500,000 to Rs 800,000 on the basis of their ranks.
“We will complete our work at all the 28 cantonments and return to Kathmandu within 15 days of the beginning of the farewell process,” added Sharma. Currently, officials at the secretariat are busy arranging for cheques to be handed to the combatants during the farewell process.
On Tuesday morning, the secretariat finalised its departure plan after Maoist representatives assured that they were ready to take the voluntary retirement process forward. Spokesperson for the Maoist PLA Chandra Prakash Khanal said they would abide by the instruction of the party leadership and support the farewell process.
