KATHMANDU, FEB 01 -  

In a major reshuffle at the highest level of bureaucracy, a Cabinet meeting on Tuesday decided to transfer 19 government secretaries and regional administrators. This is the largest ever reshuffling carried out by the incumbent government.

Many secretaries, who have specialised in their respective ministries, were transferred to new ministries. Nabin Ghimire, who has long experience in security and defence, was transferred to the Ministry of Forests. Purushottam Ojha, with experience in trade and commerce, was transferred to the Prime Minister’s Office. “Many secretaries were unhappy at the decision,” a secretary said.

The meeting also endorsed a 10-point work plan to lessen power outage and decided to clear 187.52 hector of forests for the construction of the 220 KV Hetauda-Bardibas transmission line. 

Meanwhile, the meeting agreed on new guidelines on creation and management of government websites and endorsed the amended Foreign Employment Act (2012). The meeting decided to forward a new bill on remuneration and perks for the President and the Vice President to the Bill Committee of the Cabinet. The government also accepted grants provided by the Danish and Japan governments on education reforms.
